Guitar Lessons

Teaching guitar over many years, while also being a singer, has taught me that there is always a specific chord that works best in a song.  I usually experiment until I find it. If you are a singer, finding the right chord to accompany your lyric, word by word, will inspire your singing. There are only so many notes within a key that you will use in a song, but the chords you can play seem endless. After learning the location of basic major and minor chords on the guitar, you can create new chords by adding other notes that will support your melody. My job as a teacher is show you where to find these new chords on your guitar, and also help you to find the right key that works with your voice.

Click here if you would like personal instruction, or specific chord arrangements for your vocal key. I create charts with chord diagrams, and I can also facilitate private lessons via webcam.

Whether you see yourself as a rhythm or lead guitar player, don't forget that the guitar is an amazing rhythm instrument. When you pick the strings with your bare fingers, or attack the strings with a pick, you are doing the same thing as a drummer or percussionist. In fact, you are doing even more by laying down supportive harmonies with your chords. I've studied and played African rhythms, Brazilian percussion, Indian tablas, and the American trap set, and I can show you how to use many different rhythms in your guitar playing. If you want to develop as a lead guitarist, learning how to break down beats with accents and syncopations gives you limitless ideas for solos.
